Say Anise is London-based independent musician Emily Barnett. With intricate acoustic guitars and layered vocal harmonies, her sound is reminiscent of the Laurel Canyon singer-songwriters of the 60s/70s, with echoes of nineties and early noughties alt-pop found in the quirky melodies.
Her latest release, a double EP entitled ‘For Tomorrow', was partly funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign. The first single, ‘Hurry Honeypie’, was a FreshOnTheNet “Fresh Fave”, receiving positive reviews from indie blogs like Tonic Grain and UpToHear, who called it “the soundtrack to the most perfect of Sunday mornings”.
Along with her small but mighty band, she has performed at venues all over London, including sold out headline shows at Camden’s Green Note and PizzaExpress Holborn. She can often be found providing backing vocals for artists such as HUX at venues across London, such as Colours, Hoxton, as well as further afield. Her influences range from folk and rock legends like Joni Mitchell and Fleetwood Mac to singer-songwriters like KT Tunstall and Anaïs Mitchell.
